As part of a cutting-edge global team, Co-op and Intern students at Research In Motion (RIM) work with some of the leading innovators in our industry, and create award-winning and internationally recognized hardware, software and services for mobile communications.

What to expect

Hundreds of Co-op and Internship roles are available at RIM each term in many different areas of our business and in our various offices around the world. Over the years, RIM has had great success in providing students with meaningful and exciting work terms, and we have hired many former Co-ops and Interns into our full-time workforce. It has been a highly effective program, and one that we take very seriously as it plays a critical part in our ongoing success and growth.

We want to ensure that you have the best learning and development experience, and that you have contact with your peers and colleagues throughout your term. Depending on what office you work in here is an outline of some of the key activities and events that you can look forward to:

1. New Student Orientation
   This is a one-day event that gives you the opportunity to meet other new students from across the country and prepares you for the new work term.
2. Student Welcome
   Campus Recruitment holds a welcome gathering for all students in all locations during the first two weeks of the work term.
3. RIM Co-op Social Committee (RCSC) Welcome Event
   The RCSC holds a welcome event for all new and returning students during the first month of the term. The RCSC is run by students for the purpose of meeting new friends from around the country, and to promote a positive work-life balance for all students working at RIM. If you want a place on the Committee, all you have to do is volunteer at the beginning of your work term.
4. RCSC Social Events
   Bi-monthly or monthly events are held by the RCSC. In the past, the social events have included a Digital Photo Scavenger Hunt, Laser Tag, Movie Nights, Billiard Nights, Bowling Nights, Dodge Ball tournaments and more. If you have a good idea, just let them know!
5. 20@12 Sessions
   These are Lunch and Learn sessions that take place at all of our locations, where full-time RIM employees speak about different aspects of the RIM organization and operations. The CEO talk is of course the most anticipated, but all of the sessions are high-value and designed to give you maximum exposure to the people and activities that make RIM matter.
6. Tour of Manufacturing Plant
   A placement with RIM is not complete without a tour of our manufacturing facilities in Waterloo. This is the engine of our business, and an experience in state-of-the-art production of all our BlackBerry® smartphones.
7. On-site Evaluations with Co-op/Internship Advisors
   Our commitment to your learning and development is part of what makes our placements so valuable to your education and growth. We participate in face-to-face evaluations with the schools’ Co-op/Internship Advisor for all of our Co-ops/Interns, with significant input from key managers and co-workers.
8. End of Term Evaluations
   Feedback continues until the end of your placement. When you return for your school term, we’ll give you insight into your strengths, and areas of development.
9. Progressive Success @ RIM Program for Co-op and New Grads
   Returning Co-ops and soon-to-be graduating students can secure their next Co-op placement or first full-time position through this program. Students will experience new opportunities that provide more challenges and responsibilities that are designed to expand your areas of strength, and help you grow in your areas of development. The RIM student program can be beneficial when starting your career – that is why most students spend multiple terms with us!
10. Returning Students Incentive
    Students who return to RIM for subsequent Co-op terms will receive a pay premium to recognize their continued contribution.
