"I thrive in the environment of continuous learning and growth that RIM provides. Using the latest tools such as Pro-Engineer, SolidWorks, and WildFire2, I'm actively involved in designing the prototypes and mock-ups of future BlackBerry smartphones. Our team conducts high level research into new components and the testing and qualification of these components for use.
One of the reasons that I am proud to work at RIM is that I am encouraged to choose the direction I want my career to go in. As a Co-op student, I have the ability to provide value, not only to the team I support, but also to the clients that we serve. Genuine friendships within the office contribute to an atmosphere of teamwork and fun. RIM has also given me the opportunity to stay on as a part-time employee while I’m back at school. I really appreciate the investment they have made in me."
Raj Hakim, Hardware Engineering Co-op, turned part-time employee"Two factors helped me decide on accepting a Co-op with RIM. I wanted an experience that, first, would allow me to apply knowledge gained through my classes and, second, enable me to be a valuable contributor to the company.
I enjoy the challenge of working hand in hand with such accomplished technology professionals, working within the Java development environment. I have gained a good understanding of Java®, Java ME, and Java EE.
RIM offers a stimulating work environment, coupled with the support structure needed to achieve my goals. I felt this opportunity would best prepare me to enter into a full-time position. The people at RIM were friendly, helpful and instantly made me feel like a part of the team. I now apply everything I learned here as a co-op to the full-time job opportunity they have given me."
Tanya King, Java Developer, Co-op, turned full-time employee"I had just completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering when I decided to apply for a job with RIM.I am happy to say that RIM has turned out to be an excellent choice for me.
Throughout my first year at RIM, I’ve been given challenging projects that test my skills and require me to constantly acquire new ones. My projects are real and important to the structure and integrity of the BlackBerry Operating System and it challenges my technical abilities. RIM has shown me first-hand that this is a great place to work. The developers in R&D are highly skilled individuals who take the time to welcome new employees, answer questions, and make them feel a part of the team."
Jason Lamb, Operating Systems Grad"RIM was the perfect start to my career as a Software Developer. The 'hands on' approach really energizes you and encourages contribution from day one. Working with fellow students and full time employees teaches the importance of teamwork and this is positively helping my career now. RIM not only gave me access to the tools and resources I needed to stay current in this industry, but also taught me to endure, to have pride in my work, and to strive for success. The thought of leaving RIM to find full-time work somewhere else seemed pointless since everything I’ve ever wanted in a job was right here. So when they offered me a full-time job, I didn’t even have to think twice about accepting."
Margaret Kwong, Software Engineer, Co-op, now full-time employee
