Entrust Technologies and Research In Motion Partner to Deliver Trusted e-Business for Wireless Transactions

Partnering to Enable Trusted End-to-End e-Business for RIM BlackBerry™ Handhelds To Be Demonstrated Jan. 17-20 at RSA Security San Jose Conference

Plano, TX - Entrust Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: ENTU), the global leader in solutions that bring trust to e-business, and Research In Motion (NASDAQ: RIMM, TSE:RIM), a pioneer in developing wireless data products and services, today announced an initiative to bring new secure e-commerce solutions to RIM products and services, including the award-winning RIM BlackBerry™ wireless email solution. This announcement underscores Entrust's commitment to the wireless Internet market, and the company's unique position to capitalize on the rapid growth of e-business as it evolves into the platform for commerce and the exchange of information in the next century.

The two companies are fusing RIM's leading two-way wireless handhelds with Entrust's superior e-business security solutions to deliver a host of secure e-commerce offerings for the rapidly growing wireless market. Applications will include secure email, e-banking, e-brokerage, and other mobile e-commerce initiatives for both the business-to-business and business-to-consumer markets. The first result of this groundbreaking partnership, a BlackBerry handheld integrated with Entrust/Express™ for secure email communications and transactions, extends the BlackBerry secure email model to include communications and transactions between businesses. It will be demonstrated live January 17, 2000 at Entrust Technologies' press conference at the RSA Security Conference in San Jose. (Room C1-2 at 1:30 p.m.). The demonstration will run through January 20th at Entrust 's booth, #416.

Building on Entrust Technologies' previous announcement of its aggressive wireless strategy, and its delivery of the first digital certificates for the mobile Internet platform, this new partnership reinforces Entrust's leadership position in the exploding wireless Internet market. Entrust is building the framework that will allow mobile appliances to be not only the ubiquitous consumer and e-business transaction "on-ramp" to next generation e-commerce, but the global point-of-sale terminal of choice. "Security is a key concern and a fundamental requirement when sending and receiving certain sensitive and confidential corporate information from a wireless handheld. Entrust/Express supports Microsoft Exchange and extends BlackBerry's existing Triple DES encryption standard to allow encryption, authentication and authorization over the Internet," said Jim Balsillie, Chairman and Co-CEO of Research In Motion. "This agreement facilitates RIM's intention to ship wireless subscriber devices that are e-commerce ready."

"Enabling our collective existing and future customers to capitalize on the forecasted exponential growth of wireless e-business is a manifestation of the aggressive strategy we've recently announced," said John Ryan, president and CEO, Entrust Technologies Inc. "Our rapid delivery of these capabilities demonstrates our commitment to both our customers and this market."
