Westlaw Wireless - Moving at the Speed of Lawyers
West Group Announces Expanded Wireless Access to Westlaw
Eagan, MINN - The most comprehensive suite of wireless legal research tools is now available from West Group, the foremost provider of e-information to the U.S. legal market. Researchers can now access Westlaw™ on all of the leading wireless devices. Westlaw Wireless™, released in September, put West Group at the forefront of wireless content providers, as the first in the legal industry to offer access on the Palm™ operating system.
The unique wireless URL, www.wireless.westlaw.com, enables researchers using a RIM Wireless Handheld™, any Palm OS platform or any Windows™ Pocket PC to retrieve case synopses and headnotes, obtain KeyCite® results (full history, negative history and citations to the case) and access the West Legal Directory® attorney information. The ability to use Westlaw Wireless on these latest wireless handheld devices is a significant step forward for West Group in offering attorneys more options for accessing the legal information they need every day.
"This latest wireless expansion assures attorneys and law firms that whatever option they choose for obtaining wireless content, they will be able to access Westlaw," said Terry Dick, director of technology marketing. "As the world of wireless platforms becomes more diverse, West Group will continue to respond to our customers needs by developing innovative options for obtaining legal information."
The proliferation of wireless devices and Personal Digital Assistants (PDA) in the legal industry has created an access point that offers attorneys more freedom and flexibility for conducting legal research. Industry experts have predicted that the number of large law firms providing PDAs to attorneys will expand to more than 50 percent by the end of 2000. The growth in the number of wireless users in the legal industry indicates the desire for mobility, flexibility and integration in today's legal practice. West Group is responding to these needs by developing products and services that liberate attorneys from the desktop while providing constant access points to essential information.
To gain this mobility, researchers should consult their individual platforms for directions on how to access the wireless Internet. Researchers can then go directly to the wireless URL, www.wireless.westlaw.com to conduct research on Westlaw. Users can access the Westlaw content via a wireless service provider using their current Westlaw passwords and they will be charged according to their current price plans.
