Flowfinity Wireless first to extend .NET applications to BlackBerry™
New Application Gateway seamlessly extends .NET based enterprise applications to BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds using Research In Motion's Mobile Data Service feature
Today, Flowfinity Wireless announced the availability of the first solution for end-to-end integration of .NET enterprise applications and BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds™.
Now, millions of software developers supporting Microsoft's technology standards can leverage their knowledge, assets and experience to deploy their applications to BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds.
As well, enterprises with commitments to Microsoft technology standards can be assured that their existing IT investments can be leveraged for BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds.
"Adopters of Microsoft's technology standards have an expectation of rapid integration and easy deployment," said Dmitry Mikhailov, Flowfinity's CEO and founder. "Although it has been possible to write custom applications for BlackBerry™ handhelds in the past, our solution removes risk, cost and complexity from this process with plug and play approach that gets results in a matter of days."
Thinflow™ Application Gateway 3.0
Flowfinity has released the Thinflow Application Gateway (TAG) version 3.0 to complement its Thinflow™ client technology. This release features support for new leading edge technologies from Microsoft and Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM):
- TAG 3.0 supports integration with Microsoft's .NET enterprise application infrastructure standards and Visual Studio;
- TAG 3.0 supports integration with RIM's Mobile Data Service, the secure enterprise connectivity server feature for BlackBerry;
- TAG 3.0 improves its scalability, now supporting many thousands of concurrent users;
- TAG 3.0 enhances ease of integration, now enabling developers to learn within hours, integrate within days, and deploy in less than 30 minutes; and
- TAG 3.0 enhances its support for automated device detection and data delivery, now enabling always available applications through intelligent offline data handling and proactive data updates (patent pending).
RIM's Mobile Data Service feature enables end-to-end secure communications between BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds and enterprise applications deployed behind the firewall. TAG leverages this security and communications infrastructure to provide applications infrastructure that binds the pre-existing application logic on the server to a high usability and high availability interface on the wireless handheld.
"We had two key criteria in identifying a solution for our wireless applications needs, leveraging our existing IT investment and rapid deployment of an always available application" said Richard Klein, Senior Director, IS of LGC Wireless. "With Flowfinity's solution, we easily achieved these criteria. Not only did we leverage a past investment in BlackBerry handhelds in an exciting new way, but also capitalized on Microsoft's .NET technology."
Availability
The Flowfinity Thinflow Application Gateway 3.0 (TAG 3.0) and the Thinflow client technology for BlackBerry handhelds are available for trial or purchase immediately. The solution has already been deployed with customers like LGC Wireless. For developers, the solution integrates into Visual Studio .NET to enable rapid application development. For enterprise deployments, any .NET enterprise applications behind the firewall can be wirelessly enabled by deploying TAG 3.0 and RIM's MDS, thus enabling BlackBerry handhelds (BlackBerry 957, BlackBerry 5810, or BlackBerry 5820) to securely access a .NET application.
