Glenayre and Research In Motion Demonstrate Mobile Visual Voice Mail at CTIA Wireless IT 2002

Companies help service providers target enterprise and consumer subscribers with new twist on familiar solutions

Atlanta, GA - Glenayre Technologies today announced that it will join efforts with Research In Motion Limited (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM) to demonstrate the companies' mobile Visual Voice Mail application at CTIA Wireless IT 2002.

Earlier this year, Glenayre and RIM announced plans to integrate Glenayre's messaging services with RIM's BlackBerry™ wireless platform, creating a carrier-grade offering that will provide seamless integration of voice mail, e-mail, fax, and text messages on a single device. The first phase of this collaboration is a "visual voice mail" solution, which will be on display at CTIA Wireless IT at Booth #1406 from October 17 2002 through October 18, 2002 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The mobile Visual Voice Mail application combines Glenayre's Versera™ Messaging Solution with RIM's voice-enabled BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds™. Voice messages appear in the same menu as text & e-mail messages and are accessed the same way. When a voice message is selected, the handheld calls out to Glenayre's Versera Messaging Solution, authenticates the user and plays the voice message.

This collaborative effort allows service providers to leverage their existing investments in Glenayre and RIM technologies and target the enterprise and consumer arena. With the mobile Visual Voice Mail application, subscribers will be able to access voice messages using the same, familiar interface they use for other messages on their BlackBerry handhelds. Subscribers will also be able to listen to voice messages without having to key in log-in information. Application commands will include play, replay, save, forward and delete messages and reply to messages with Call Out™ one-key call return.
