PointBase® Partners With Research In Motion To Ensure Mobilization And Synchronization Of Enterprise Data On BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds™
Developers Will be Able to Provide Persistent Data Store and Synchronization Capabilities Within Their Enterprise Applications
Mountain View, Calif - PointBase, Inc., the leader in Java™ database and synchronization technology for managing enterprise data among servers, mobile and pervasive computing devices, announced today it has joined the BlackBerry™ ISV Alliance program with Research In Motion Limited (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM, TSE: RIM) to provide relational database and synchronization technology for BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds™.
Under this alliance, developers will be able to build and deploy mobile enterprise applications for the BlackBerry that incorporate persistent data storage, providing greater productivity and efficiency to corporate users. PointBase will participate with RIM in a variety of robust co-marketing activities, including the RIM Developer Zone and PointBase's OnPoint Partner Program and JADCentral.com, a Java application developer portal sponsored by PointBase.
PointBase enables RIM Java developers to use SQL database access and data synchronization techniques within their applications that run on any Java-enabled platform. Meeting the size and functionality requirements of the BlackBerry Wireless Handheld, PointBase Micro is a 100% pure Java RDBMS with an ultra small footprint of less than 41K. Designed for J2ME™ and PJava Platforms, PointBase Micro uses a subset of JDBC to connect with other enterprise databases. PointBase Micro is designed for the new generation of Java database applications, PDAs and other pervasive devices such as BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds.
"BlackBerry is widely adopted in the corporate world and has set the bar for receiving corporate email anytime, anywhere. As corporations continue to see the advantages of higher productivity through mobility, the need for access to enterprise information on mobile devices becomes more imperative," said Bruce Scott, CEO and founder of PointBase. "By combining BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds with the small footprint PointBase database, enterprise applications on a handheld become reality, affording mobile workers greater efficiency and productivity with real-time information access on their BlackBerry handhelds."
