New METAMessage for Wireless Capability Gives Administrators Handheld Access to Enterprise IT Systems
Onset's SYSADMIN Connector Lets Users Monitor and Send Commands to IT Systems from BlackBerry Handhelds
Microsoft TechEd 2003 Conference - Dallas, TX - Onset Technology, a leading developer of enterprise access software for wireless handheld devices, announced today a significant METAmessage® for Wireless product enhancement - the ability to let system administrators perform system tasks directly from their Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM, TSX: RIM) BlackBerry® handhelds. An administrator can send any shell-command type instruction to their network via a simple form. METAmessage then returns the command output to the administrator as a standard METAmessage response message. The command session remains active and maintains the latest state to enable a series of commands.
"This tool will save me from having to go back and forth to my workstation, and I'll be able to monitor processes even when I'm offsite," says Tracy Stuart, messaging administrator at Alliance Capital. "Like most IT people, the state of the system is always on my mind, and this tool will let me relax a lot easier. I'll be able to find out what's going on and fix things, practically anywhere, anytime."
METAmessage for Wireless is a complete, out-of-the-box solution for handheld access to the enterprise, currently serving over 1000 enterprise customers with over 100,000 users. Depending on how the product is licensed, users can interact directly with a range of enterprise data systems including document management/time-and-billing programs, enterprise applications, and internally developed databases. The user simply opens a form on the handheld and either requests information from or adds information to the data source. Users can also get network files to send, read, or print; access the Web, without opening a browser, for driving directions, flight information, Google searches, and more; spell-check outgoing messages; and, read email attachments and Web pages and print them anywhere, including network printers.
