Onset Technology Adds File Access and Spell Checking to its Basic METAmessage Software for BlackBerry Devices

Company's METAmessage for Wireless Software Offers More Features, Greater Value

Santa Cruz, CA - Onset Technology, a leading developer of data access software for wireless handheld devices, has expanded its basic METAmessage product to include the ability to access and retrieve files and documents from corporate networks. Currently shipping METAmessage® for Wireless 4.1 also includes a spell checking feature that lets users quickly correct typing errors and misspellings as they compose outbound email messages.

"We've raised the standards of what can be done on a BlackBerry™ enterprise network," said Stewart Fox, vice president of marketing and sales for Onset. "Now, with METAmessage, a BlackBerry user can download files from a network server, print anywhere to a network printer or fax machine, access Web pages without a browser, and read more attachment types than any other software. METAmessage makes BlackBerry an even more powerful wireless device."

METAmessage for Wireless is one of the most popular third-party software add-ons for BlackBerry. More than 1000 enterprise customers currently use the software on their BlackBerry networks, connecting more than 100,000 wireless users in the financial, legal, and government sectors. According to Onset, the new file retrieval software is available as a free upgrade to any METAmessage enterprise user that has a maintenance contract. Other current METAmessage users can also add the new file feature and should contact their sales representative for further information.

"Our staff wants to use their handhelds like they use their desktop PC's," said Danny Pinchasi, Director of IT at Southland Title in Burbank, California. "METAmessage lets them access all their data, read status reports or print spreadsheets, using just their handhelds. And, if they get an email asking for a certain document, they can send it, from anywhere, without waiting to get back to the office."

METAmessage for Wireless 4.1 also supports the Mobile Data Service feature from Research In Motion (RIM). Onset's software is available with data access capabilities that let handheld users interact directly with a range of corporate data sources such as document management systems from iManage® and Hummingbird, SQL/ODBC databases, Web services, CRM/ERP programs, and proprietary applications. The user simply opens a form on the handheld and either requests information from or adds information to the data source.

"Many customers underestimate what an enterprise-wide BlackBerry network can do for them," Fox said. "It connects enterprise users to all the corporate documents and data they could need, regardless of where they are or when. It's 24x7 access to the entire network."
