Telecom Launches WorldMode Data Roaming and Announces the Availability of the BlackBerry 8830 World Edition Smartphone

Auckland, NZ - Telecom announced today that it has launched its WorldMode Data Roaming service, which will allow customers to use their Telecom WorldMode PDAs and smartphones, on both CDMA and GSM based networks, in over 75 countries.

 To coincide with the launch of WorldMode Data Roaming, Telecom also announced today that the BlackBerry® 8830 World Edition smartphone from Research In Motion (RIM) is now available to all Telecom customers.

 WorldMode Data Roaming complements Telecom’s existing WorldMode Roaming service, which launched last year and provides voice and SMS capability in around 140 countries .

 Telecom GM Business Solutions, Martin Butler, says WorldMode Data Roaming gives Telecom customers the option to use both voice and data services in Australia and beyond.

 “We have a large number of business customers who rely on having the functionality of a PDA device or a smartphone, so it’s logical they want to take their devices with them when they travel. Developing our WorldMode Data Roaming service, and collaborating with RIM to provide the BlackBerry 8830 World Edition smartphone, ensures that we can deliver the capabilities our customers want.”

 Featuring a sleek and stylish design, the BlackBerry 8830 World Edition is the first CDMA-based smartphone from RIM that provides roaming capabilities on GSM/GPRS networks, givingcustomers to increased flexibility with full voice and data coverage to surf the internet, check email, make calls and use their business-related applications without having to change devices, phone numbers or email addresses
